"I had my first music lesson with Gerard when I was 9 years old, and thanks to his genuine, friendly and knowledgeable teaching style I was guided by his instruction every week for 10 years which saw me through to complete my AMEB Grade 8 Violin examination with a result of A+.

I had always wanted to play the violin and when my parents finally gave in they found Gerard as a violin teacher available in the local area. From the very beginning, he was able to identify my personal strengths and mould his teaching technique to structure lessons to suit my needs. The teaching environment was always welcoming, supportive and informative. Although violin was my primary instrument, I also received tuition on Piano and Music Theory from Gerard.

I took my violin playing beyond the weekly lessons and during my time at both primary and high school I was always an active violin player - in the school band, string ensemble, musical productions, eisteddfod competitions and school concerts. I was a member of the UNSW Orchestra during the course of my studies there and played in a number of concerts. I now work as a business analyst for an aviation software company and am looking to join a local community orchestra!"

"Our daughter Asia's appreciation of music and enjoyment of playing the piano has grown since commencing lessons with Sydney Music School Toongabbie (at the beginning of this year).

Gerard is very patient with his students, his methods of teaching are unique and it's inspiring to see how far Asia and others under his tuition have progressed.

Asia looks forward to practicing each day and is very determined to play each of her music pieces well. The joy in watching and listening to her play ... priceless.

Thank you very much Gerard.

We all look forward to a long association with you and Sydney Music School Toongabbie."

"Having worked with Gerard in many community support projects through music concerts, I have seen how Gerard stretches musicians drawing the best out of them. He cares for the musicians he is in charge of which earns a lot of respect as a leader.

I have observed Gerard under pressure and he maintains a calmness and patience which has influenced me! As he is a "big thinker" I believe Sydney Music School has the potential to grow immensely. "

"I have known Gerard since I was about 12 years old. I have since gone on to complete 8 grades of AMEB piano examinations.

I have been involved in many musical shows playing to paying audiences of over 700, and have also been serving in my church worship team for the last 10 years. The majority of these experiences were shared alongside with Gerard.

I am in awe of his musical ability and can't believe the skills he has. He has every right to be confident and boast in his ability, but he never does. This has impacted me greatly and I try my best to mimic this in my own life. He is incredibly patient and slow to anger. He is always well prepared and has the ability to help anyone; whether it be a keyboardist, violinist, guitarist, singer, drummer ... anything!

Gerard is solely responsible for creating an appreciation of eastern music in me. He has nurtured this by helping me develop my skills and techniques in playing eastern music. He has also developed my ability in western music, especially by helping me train my musical 'ear'. I am now more able to cope with improvisational playing of the piano than I was before his guidance. He has also taught me how to work with a large number of people in a music team, where people all have varying abilities.

Gerard leads by example and reflects Christ in his speech and actions, which is inspiring to me as a Christian as well. I consider myself incredibly lucky to know him and have learned so much from him. I appreciate how even today, I can simply call or text him any questions I might have and he is always happy to help me. Gerard is the best musician I know, and I feel honoured every time I get the chance to join with him and make music."
